About the Gallery

Meet Jenny Swearingen

As a native Floridian, born and raised in Tallahassee, my love of painting began in the mid-1970s.  Oils were my first choice, but as my artistry developed, I moved to watercolors.  My passion for watercolor painting has grown over the years.  I love to watch the colors mingle and move on paper.

During the 1980s and 1990s, my husband and I raised our daughter and built a retail hardware and lumber business.  At the same time, I completed graduate degrees and learned to sail, a hobby that became another passion of mine, until 2014.  With renewed energy and interest, I returned to my original passion… painting. Determined to learn all I could about my new craft, I attended professional workshops, took watercolor classes at the Tallahassee Senior Center, and met some wonderful artists and friends.  I also spent 23 wonderful years captaining my own sailboat. There is nothing like being on the water and seeing Mother Nature at its best and worst.

Having earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Management, I pursued and completed a Master of Business Administration and a Doctorate of Business Administration, with a specialization in Marketing.  In May, 2018, I retired from higher education as a Professor Emeritus.

Currently, I hold a signature status with the Tallahassee Watercolor Society.  My artwork has been in juried shows at the Tallahassee Senior Center, City Hall (Brushstrokes-Tallahassee), and the Florida State University Fine Arts Building (Tri-State Juried Water Media Exhibition).  It has also been displayed at Westminster Oaks, Beadel House (Tall Timbers Plantation), Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center and the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts (Valdosta, Georgia).
